On January 7, 2026, Shelter for Social Development organized a free eye camp. Over 700 patients came. Specialist doctors helped us. We gave eye checks, free glasses, and medicines. We also arranged cataract surgery for those most in need.
A Day to Help People See Better
Many people in Bangladesh have eye problems. They may have blurry vision, cataracts, or infections. But they cannot afford treatment. Or they cannot reach a hospital. So they suffer for years. This camp was organized to fill that gap. Even for just one day, in one community, we wanted to help.
The camp was held at a local place that was easy to reach. Anyone could come. People arrived in the morning. SSD staff and volunteers welcomed them. A team of eye specialists checked their eyes all day.

What the Camp Gave
The response was better than we expected. More than 700 patients came. Each person got a proper eye checkup from a specialist doctor.
- 700+ patients got free eye checkups from specialist doctors.
- 350+ people got free eyeglasses made just for them.
- 450+ patients got free eye medicines, including eye drops and other treatments.
- 15–20 cataract patients were found and sent for free surgery later. SSD arranged everything at no cost to them.
For many who came, this was the first time they had ever seen an eye doctor.

Free Glasses for Over 350 People
One of the best parts of the camp was giving out glasses. Hundreds of people — mostly older folks — had trouble seeing for years. After the checkup, those who needed glasses got a pair that same day. Free of cost.
Seeing someone put on glasses for the first time and look around with clear eyes — that stays with you. It happened more than 350 times that day.
Medicine and Eye Drops for 450+ Patients
Many patients came with eye infections, dryness, or early problems. They needed medicine. SSD gave eye drops and other prescribed medicines to more than 450 people. Free of cost. Doctors also explained how to use the medicine and what to watch for.
These are small things. But for someone who cannot afford to buy medicine, getting the right help on the right day can stop a small problem from becoming permanent.

Free Surgery for Those Who Needed It Most
During the checkups, doctors found 15 to 20 patients with cataracts. Cataracts slowly make a person blind if not treated. The only cure is surgery. But poor patients often cannot pay for it.
SSD arranged for these patients to get cataract surgery completely free. The operations happened after the camp. Specialist surgeons did them. SSD helped the patients through every step.
These people could have lost their sight forever. Now, they can see.

SSD Stands with the Community
This eye camp shows how SSD works. We do microfinance and skills training. But real development also means helping people with their basic needs — like health.
The camp on January 7 happened because of many people. The eye specialists gave their time. The SSD team managed everything. And our donors and partners believed in this work.
SSD will keep organizing health camps like this one. If you want to support future camps or partner with us, please reach out.
The eye camp on January 7, 2026 was organized by Shelter for Social Development (SSD). It is part of our ongoing work for community development and social welfare. SSD regularly runs outreach activities to help underserved people across Bangladesh.
